Veruka accepted the sentiment. "Thank you." She didn't know as she had lost all that much, since she had never met her mother, but she did feel the lack of one. Maybe that counted as the same thing. "What about your parents?"

"They live on a farm in Kansas," Camron told her.

She nodded slowly. "Do you see them often?"

"When things aren't too crazy," he answered with a nod.

Veruka didn't know where time was going. The semester always went by quickly but this one was flying by. And it was the best one of her entire life. Cameron and she had been dating steadily for the past couple months and she liked him so much that it made her dizzy and crazy sometimes. It was going well. Almost too well, if there was such a thing.

It was different, having an interest outside his work, someone to do things with, even a girlfriend as he was allowed to claim now. He had never truly dated a girl, sometimes he had shown interest or had interest shown in him, but it was never anything he really had to look into, this was different. He kept his relationship secret from the rest in his group, he knew how they would all react, even though they all had outside lives it was always too risky for him, for once he was doing what he wanted to do. And it was perfect, most of the time. He still could not completely ignore his duties which sometimes got in the way of his desires to be with her.

Cameron cancelled last minute on her sometimes but she knew why and for the most part it didn't bother her. But it did a little, sometimes. Sometimes she wished it was simpler, that she was just a girl and he was just a boy, but life didn't quite work out like that. Anyway, she told him that she didn't mind, that she understood. On the other side of that coin, her father found out she was dating someone and now wanted to know all about who she was dating. She figured, since she was his only daughter, that he was being over protective. Like normal. She evaded when she could, answered when she couldn't evade, and stalled when he pressured her to meet Cameron.

It was getting late Camron had told her that he would be over for dinner that evening. He was never good with telling her an exact time, never knew exactly what would come up. But by nine he hadn't shown up and when he was finally free he wondered whether to go over at all. He always felt horrible doing this to her but didn't know what else to do. Even though she always said it was ok he knew otherwise.

Veruka drummed her fingers on the kitchen table with one hand, head propped on her other hand. She sighed gustily, and glanced at the clock. For the millionth time. Finally she stood up, frustrated. The phone rang and she snatched it up. "Oh hi daddy." She laughed guiltily. "Of course not. How are you?" She nodded at something he said and looked over at her front door and frowned. "Dinner on Sunday?" she repeated. "You want Cameron to come?" Veruka bit her lip. "Yes alright, I'll see if he's free. Love you too. Goodnight daddy." She hung up and worried her lower lip with her teeth. Great.

After a brief battle with himself over what to do he finally decided, he would go see her. That really was the most sensible thing. When he arrived he was armed with a bouquet of roses, he knocked.

Veruka jerked out of a catnap at the sound of her door and hurried over to the door. She yanked it open and smiled crookedly when she saw him. She leaned her hip against the door frame. "Hi," she greeted softly, looking from the flowers up to his face.

"Hi," he greeted in return a small smile crawling into his face. It was clear he had come straight from the most recent catastrophe in gothamme. His suit was a little disheveled and his hair was messier than usual but he still looked good. "I'm sorry I'm so late," he apologized instantly handing off the long stem roses.

She took them silently. "It's fine. What was it this time?" she asked over her shoulder as she headed for the kitchen, leaving the door open for him.

The superman stepped inside and shut the door behind him before answering, "A burning apartment in the centre of the city."

"Were the firemen tied up?" she questioned, wondering why a burning building had required so much of his attention.
